Head of family has duty to take care of the welfare of wife and children. He is the one who should provide, protect and lead the family. There are duties for every member of the family.
Duties of a husband: -
(1) To be faithful to his wife.
(2) To have regards and respect.
(3) Let her be accessible to the family fortune.
(4) To be kind and loving.
(5) Honour her with gifts and ornaments.
Duties of a wife: -
(1) To be faithful to her husband.
(2) Maintain the family fortune.
(3) Look after the family and family affairs.
(4) Treat relatives and friends of both sides equally.
(5) To be diligent in household works.
Duties of parents towards their children:
(1) Protect them from getting into wrong habits.
(2) Give them good education.
(3) Teach them to be upright and polite.
(4) Help them in starting their livelihood.
(5) Arrange suitable marriage to have families of their own.
Duties of children towards their parents:
(1) Provide the needs of their old age.
(2) Help them when they need assistance.
(3) Show respect to them, and be worthy of inheritance.
(4) Perform merit-sharing deeds when they are deceased. (5) Maintain the family honour and heritage.
If all family members keep up these duties, there will be peace and harmony in the family. Though these guidelines seem outdated in today’s culture, the family values remain the same. So, the guidelines are still recognized and followed in modified ways. To have a peaceful family is a blessing.
