Dr. Cynthia Maung (founder of the Mae Tao Clinic) and representatives from the Back Pack Health Workers’ Team, the Burma Medical Association, Burma Relief Center, Mon Health Committee have been hosted by Inter Pares to visit Canada. They have been invited to learn about Canada’s federal healthcare system as they are a part of a group of organizations that is looking at visioning a national healthcare system for Burma. While in BC and Ottawa they will meet with health workers and policy makers at the municipal, provincial and federal level as well as some of the first nations healthcare systems.
The Burmese Buddhist Society, the Pacific Burma Roundatable and members of the Burmese Community would like to welcome her group at the Buddhist Monastery on Sunday May 25 for a community gathering.
We invite everyone to join in for a potluck offering to the resident monk Ashin Ghosaka of the Burmese Buddhist Society starting at 11am. Prayers and blessings will be recited after mealtime. All, Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike, are welcome to join us to meet Dr. Cynthia and her group of humanitarian health practitioners and celebrate their achievements in providing healthcare to countless refugees over the past 25 years and to further understand the challenges that lie ahead.
