NOBLE JOURNEY

Burmese Buddhist Society, BC has been well-established for 4- years already now; contributed by the Canadian- Burmese Buddhist families.  In the beginning of June 2009 , we rented a house for a place of worship and community gathering for five months. Later we found a suitable place for a monastery.

Fortunately we brought a house and land for the monastery signed by a generous family named Ko Hla Pe and Ma Lay Lay Nwe. On November 8, we celebrate the grand opening ceremony led by Penang Saydaw U Pannnyanvumsa and Taiwan Saydaw U Nandavumsa.   Venerable Sayadaw contributed the Buddha’s teaching at the monastery without difficultly, supported by Burmese –Canadian Buddhist families.

We are happy and appreciate the contribution to Buddhasasa in the Western country.

BBS.BC’s journey of aspirations and lofty achievements within the last five years is a great joy to all of us: such as Buddhist monks and novice ordination  ceremony; non-stop pathana chanting; union of waso robe offering, union of khathna robe offering; paying respect to seniors; Ddhamma school for children and Abhidhamma class for adults.    

Occasionally, we have conduct special Dhamma talk  led by  Vipasana Sayadaw from Myanmar  sponsored by BBS.BC.

Future purposes:

Presently the building owned by Ko Hla Pe and Ma Lay Lay Nwe, will have to change ownership to BBS.BC. We are requesting the mortgage broker and realtor to help this process of changing names. .

The current assessment of the property by the City is over $ 800,000, presently we have a debt of $ 400,000 to pay. Next year the BBS,B.C bank contract will be complete, and we can change the name or switch to the other bank.

The New Building

BBS,B.C  land  is 283× 63  feet wide, so we can apply religion zone to City.  If it is not enough for our community, we will move to another place and build a new building. We are encouraging the community to come out for this project. If this project succeeds, we will be of help to the Buddhist Families from all over the world.  The main purpose also is to turn it into a place of public worship in order to meet their religious obligations and a resolute Cultural Center for the new generation.

RESPONSIBILITY

According to the Society act, we elect a president, and a secretary every year; but we all have responsibility the unity for progress in society because this society is supported by all the members.

Clearing Group

Working with EC, everyone can do something for society such as cleaning group. You can do monthly or after celebration days. 

Education Group

BBS, BC opens Summer school for children every year. You can help in teaching kids and transportatio if some parents are working.

This year there is a special prize for kids. There will be two special prizes. One will be the role model student and the other one is a special student in Abhidhama.

If you win the special prize in Abhidhamma, you will reward to explore a free trip to Myanmar with your family in 2015.

FINANCIAL GROUP

BBS, BC is a non- profit charitable organization, we issue official tax receipts to every donors, so you can help the Society by collecting donations. On the day of the ceremony, you can also help   as a receptionist at the reception counter for donation.

UNITY IS STRENGTH

The Chinese proverb states that  “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”, even though BBS, BC journey is noble and ambitious, we can achieve it one day with faith and unity working together.
