Knowing company with person low
Make one become low and mean.
‘Equals’, as friends are never so,
They do not make one demean.
‘Superior’ are the best to follow;
They lift their friends from below.
Therefore, one should shun the low
And one’s ‘superiors’ should always follow.
Keep away from evil friends
And friends who are known to be mean.
Mix with those who are good and dear
And those who are noble and clean
if one's friends are evil
And if they are full of guile;
If corrupt are his ways
And all his habits are base,
Both from this world and from the world to come
He is certainly bound to fall
And meet with ruin and disgrace.
